What Are You Fighting For?

Learn Only 1 Lesson in 2013

As the Ravens and Ray Lewis battle the Niners and unlikely hero Colin Kaepernick in Super Bowl XLVII, football fan or not, you can admire the dedication of the teams to their sport—and the achievement of reaching the pinnacle of that sport. In the spirit of athleticism and goals, we’re inspired by this T-Nation article by Nate Miyaki (be careful on the click, he doesn’t mince words).

He argues that there’s only one rule, and that is: “Rule #1 –

“Ultimately, you’re going to have to take some personal accountability, look at your life, look inside yourself, and come to your own conclusions.

As a matter of fact, part of finding your fighting spirit is realizing that you can’t always rely on someone else, or wait for a savior to solve all of your problems. You have to solve them for yourself.”

Finding what you’re fighting for doesn’t just apply to athletics, though it’s certainly easy to see in that area. What are you fighting for in your life? What’s your passion? Greater purpose? Because then working out, eating right, sleeping, succeeding at work, doing the right thing by your family and friends, all become a part of that purpose.

Miyaki writes, “I’m not saying it’s going to make the road any easier. Excellence is never easy – that’s the point. There will be ups and downs, adversity, and setbacks. There will be days where you will absolutely want to quit.

But when you know what you’re fighting for, you will find a way to persevere.”
